Global Education Office (GEO) Scholarship Application

This application is for Summer 2026 or Spring embedded 2026 study abroad programs.

This is primarily a financial need based scholarship. However, the committee considers not only financial need (both FAFSA-demonstrated and need that might be missed by FAFSA), but also the quality of your motivation and the educational fit of the study abroad program.

  • You can apply even if you’re not yet sure about your study abroad plans
  • Graduate students can apply, however, only if going on a study abroad program for credit
  • International students (who are current Virginia Tech students!) can apply to this scholarship. Note: this scholarship is NOT for international students who are trying to get accepted into Virginia Tech).
  • You can only receive one award per program. While students going on embedded programs can apply during 2 different application cycles, they can only get one award. So if you’ve received a scholarship during the first cycle, do not apply for the second cycle.
  • Students are eligible to receive a maximum of two GEO scholarships during their four-year undergraduate academic program.

Eligibility requirements:

  • GPA 2.5 or above
  • Enrollment in VT credit bearing program for which tuition is paid to VT

IMPORTANT: DO NOT wait until the last moment to submit your application! Scholarship Central locks down at midnight and we can’t manually override the system!
So, any applications not submitted by the midnight deadline cannot be reviewed – NO EXCEPTIONS!
